Welcome to Parenting With Psychology™ by

Dr. Lindsay Emmerson

Mom / Parenting Coach / Speaker/ Mentor

“I’ve had patients call me Dr. Emmerson and college students call me Professor Emmerson but really, I just go by Lindsay or Mom.  Through that role came the opportunity to combine my love of psychology and knowledge of fundamental psychology principles with my role as a parent. I found that I was using my knowledge of psychology every day with my own children. Now helping parents, grandparents, and caregivers as a Parenting Coach, my clients call me Dr. Lindsay. I help them achieve the same success I have in my parenting role by teaching basic psychology principles that have practical applications in their parent-child relationship every single day.”

Tell me more about Parenting With Psychology™

Parenting with psychology is for parents, expecting parents, grandparents, caregivers, coaches, teachers; anyone interacting with children can benefit from learning these psychology-based tools.  Parenting and working with kids is a really tough job.  It’s wild that we can be thrust into these roles without any formal training.  Get the guidance and support you need to maximize your parenting experience.

Parenting With Psychology is a series of online parenting courses for different age groups designed to help parents identify their parenting goals and develop a sense of competence in and enjoyment of their parenting by providing psychology-based tools that they can apply to their daily parenting practice.

Parenting With Psychology is not therapy for extreme childhood behaviors but rather coaching tips for every parent to provide you with the tools that will make you feel more competent in your parenting.  These tools are based on core psychology principles, such as operant conditioning and social learning theory, that are fascinating to learn about.  When you understand the concepts behind the tools, you can apply them directly to your own parenting and understand how to use them in your unique situations as opposed to feeling like you need somebody else to direct you or provide a script for managing your children.  I’m not talking about what I learned during my Ph.D. program but rather, foundational psychology principles that I learned in college in courses like Introduction to Psychology 101.  Any parent can learn these psychology-based tips.

In addition to helping improve parent-child experiences for individual families, there is a second mission to my Parent Coaching.  That goal is to effect a larger cultural change, making the world a better place by raising good humans and teaching others how to do the same.  I strive to help parents raise happy kids who are conscientious, reasonable, independent, and resilient.

This change starts small with your nuclear family, rubs off on your circle of friends and families at the playground, your child's school, your workplace, etc., then spreads and grows indefinitely as each of your children spread their wings, travel, and start families of their own.

"This is how it started for me: I knew that I could use my love of psychology and the solid foundation I had in fundamental psychology principles to be an amazing parent. I had great role models but no formal training in parenting. In fact, it’s unbelievable to me that you can be handed a newborn baby to shape and mold and keep safe without any required classes. There’s no license to obtain, no required practicum hours, and no test to pass; you’re just placed into the most important job in the world, ready or not. How unbelievable is that?" ~ Dr. Lindsay

Wanting a better world for your children and being involved in that change is part of being an amazing parent.  You’re doing an amazing thing by exploring the resources Parenting With Psychology offers and committing to becoming an amazing parent. Thank you for being a part of the movement helping the next generation to be more caring, conscientious, patient, responsible, independent, and resilient.
